I'm very fortunate to have worked on a lot of very cool gear. I just have experience, and an open mind. I'm not famous, nor am I necessarily even that good. I think a hybrid approach is the best way these days depending on genre, of which I've had a taste of all of them. I have gear I like, and I can appreciate the beauty and patience of tracking with a console to tape, as well as the hussle and grind of grid editing and melodyning a record to death, but like, in a good way. Most recently, I've been going down the rabbit hole of DIY gear. I am a tracking engineer, mixing, editing, vocal tuning, I was a runner, an intern, an assistant, a tape librarian, a studio manager, owner I've worked on Grammy winning records, and on an indie group's dream opus, and everything in between. I feel comfortable saying I've seen and heard just about everything. So, I've been an audio engineer for a long time. I know Reddit is a place for pros and amatuers and everything in between, so I'm curious what the response is here. it is a really long post, and I guess meant for professionals, or at least people familiar with a lot of audio gear, so maybe I've come to the right place. They're dry sounding, missing warmth! I'm tempted to look at some of the other headphones you guys mentioned. C'mon! I said WARM headphones and those are far from warm. but a few years ago the general consensus was don't mix on closed back headphones.Īlso, I have the HD600.

I guess because they were so cheap and technically a gaming headset I thought I could do better. You know you guys brought up a good point as to why buy another pair of headphones if I seem to have found the perfect ones for me. I feel like if I can find open back headphones with those same qualities that my headset has, it will result in an even better more accurate mix than my headset. What are some nice warm sounding open back headphones with a great sound stage? So with that being said back to my original question. I noticed these headphones have a warm sound to them, and combined with the stereo imagery they work good for my ears. What do you know that I buy one of those supposedly 7.1 stereo gaming headsets (Cheap $50!) for Call of Duty so I can hear my enemies better, and I've used them for more MIXING than playing the damn game! I can mix so much better on these and they come out more accurate when I bounce to my phone and other devices etc. Ranging from flat frequency responses to not so flat. Funny story - I've spent thousands and thousands of dollars on treating my room, purchasing several different monitors, bought a $1500 sub to see if it would give me an advantage mixing low end, have all kinds of closed back and open back headphones.
